Breathe and Take Time to Smell the Roses: New Apps to Remind us to BREATHE

by Dr. Alan Christianson

You know the expression, “take time to stop and smell the roses“? They were on to something! But let’s go deeper…..
You are what you breathe. One of my biggest secrets to instantly perk up your energy is through breathing…and not just with your breath. There are a few ways you can do this.

1. Change your air filters.

It is important that you change your air filters, as they are the largest source of toxins is the air you breathe in your home. Use HEPA air filters or ionizers and have your ducts cleaned each year.

2. Eat food products that aren’t contaminated by toxic air pollutants.

Yes, you are what you eat….and what your food breathes. According to the EPA, you can also be exposed to air pollutants by eating contaminated plants (hey, plants breathe too) or animals that have eaten contaminated plants. Another reason, organic veggies and animals that eat organically are better for you.

3. Do a 15 minute breathing exercise each day.

Finally, an easy way to do breathing exercises is to download an app to your smartphone.

Some great ones are:

  • Breathing Zone
  • Breathe2Relax
  • Long Deep Breathing

These simple ideas are a great resource so you can have lots of energy…especially handy as the holidays get closer.
