Yoga for Hope

Yoga for Hope Phoenix Will Directly Fund Research Programs at City of Hope, One of the Nation’s Leading Centers for Cancer Treatment and Research, as They Work To Develop New, Less Invasive Treatments with the Unending Hope of Finding Cures for Many Life Threatening Diseases Effecting Too Many Lives

The Phoenix office City of Hope, one of the nation's leading centers for cancer treatment and research, announced the official launch of its third annual Yoga for Hope event taking place Sunday morning, October 21, 2012. Yoga For Hope will be hosted poolside on the rooftop of The W Hotel in Scottsdale, Arizona. Yoga for Hope is an event for everyone regardless of their level of yoga experience (or lack thereof).

Its mission is to raise enough money to fund the necessary resources to find a cure for cancer. It will also strive to bring awareness to how important a strong mind-body-spirit connection is for patients battling life-threatening illnesses. The proceeds from this event will directly benefit research for new, less invasive treatments and ultimately a cure for all cancers, diabetes and other life threatening diseases.

The Yoga for Hope event was born out of City of Hope's efforts to pair complimentary, alternative/integrative therapies like yoga and meditation with patients traditional medical treatment programs.

Yoga is an integral part of City of Hope’s overriding mission to heal the whole person; including nurturing the emotional, spiritual, social and physical well-being,” said Michele Shipitofsky, Director for City of Hope’s Phoenix development office. “Our program of providing gentle, restorative yoga classes has proven effective with a profound impact on symptom management and quality of life for many fighting these diseases. The Yoga for Hope event will bring more awareness to the benefits of a strong mind-body- spirit forpatients with life-threatening illnesses and will raise money to directly benefit the research we provide at City of Hope that benefit patients right here in Phoenix.”
